Tribute to the Left of Israel

My 14-year old Israeli co-blogger Eran wrote several things in his latest post with which I strongly disagree, and I already addressed many of them in my comment to said post.

However, there is one thing which is strange enough to justify a new post, as it exposes the whole weirdness of the current political landscape of Israel.

Eran called the leftists of Israel "Sharon's dogs" ... probably cause they support Sharon's deportation plan.

Now, I don't blame you for getting this wrong, Eran, we're all struggling to keep up with the breathtaking and mind-numbling developments in the Israeli political battlefield, but that notion is just plain wrong:

The Israeli left may be many things, but they're most definitely not Sharon's "dogs".

The left has simply stood by its convictions, which they always had ... in principle they advocated the current deportation plan long before Sharon came to his PM office.

There's nothing wrong with that stance, Israel is a democracy and all people are free to think and voice whatever they want.
And it's natural and legitimate that they seize the opportunity to get their plans realized now. Nothing wrong with that either.

The only "dog" in this game - if you insist on that term - is Sharon himself, andeven more doggish are large parts of the Likud Party.

Sharon and the Likud have betrayed the nation, not the Leftists !

The leftists always said that they wanted the deportation.
They stated that openly, and made no attempts to hide their ambitions, to the contrary: They told everyone why they wanted it, and made the issue a campaign topic. That's fine with me.
That's democracy.

I happen to disagree with what the left says and wants, and very strongly so - but I would defend to the last their right to free speech, and the democratic pursuit of their goals.

The only one who acts wrong in Israel these days, who acts against their alleged principles, and against the will of the people, are Sharon and the Likud Party !

In the elections, they defeated the left-wing parties soundly by promising a new, proud Israel, one that fights terrorists instead of appeasing them as the left proposed, and practised since the Oslo Accords in 1993, which brought about nothing but the most bloody terror attacks Israel had ever seen.

After the elections, as Sharon was indicted for his bribery scandals, he turned his political course around by 180 degrees.

Strange enough, but humans are fallible ... Sharon deemed his personal wealth more important than the integrity and security of the nation, the rights of the Jews in Gaza, and the will of the people.
That wouldn't have been a problem, if it had not been for the whole Likud Party blindly (?!?) following Sharon's corrupted lead without a word of protest, and forsaking all their values and principles.

They - Sharon and his "dogs", namely the Likud Party - are now willing to endanger the nation of Israel, the nation they promised to guard and protect, by throwing Gaza to the terrorists, who will capture it as a prey of their terror war, and feel vindicated thru it, reenforced psychologically to carry on blowing up Jews in order to gain more territory from the weak Jewish regime.

To say it explicitly, I hold no, absolutely no grudge against the Israeli left in this matter - they've always told the public what they wanted, have always been honest about their goals annd motivations ( as they see themselves, at least ).

I respect an outspoken foe.

On the other side, I am grossly appalled by back-stabbers like the Israeli "right" Likud Party, and their leader Ariel Sharon, as they hide their motivations from the public, and are doing the opposite of what they promised.

The right of Israel is a fraudulent outrage, the left of Israel has at least been true to its - however misguided - proposals and principles.

I got respect for this Left,
whereas I feel nothing but scorn and abhorrence when I think about the Likud of these days ...

I never thought I would one day feel compelled to laud the left of any nation in such a way, but that's just the way it is.

The Likud has rendered the democracy of Israel de facto meaningless these days ... the situation is as crazy as if George W. Bush had revealed after the US presidential elections that he really thought along the lines of howard Dean, and the whole Republican Party would have gone along with him, signing the Kyoto Protocol, the ICC treaty, and pulling all troops from their international deployments immediatedly.

Unimaginable ?!

Reality in Israel !

Well, untill now they were against it, but now when they see they have the chance to be dictators for the whole time, they've became his dogs.

''There's nothing wrong with that stance, Israel is a democracy and all people are free to think and voice whatever they want.

''

Still, now they use undemocratic elements to stay on rule, like driving away those who disagree, so I don't know for how long we'll stay Democracy.

''The only "dog" in this game - if you insist on that term - is Sharon himself, andeven more doggish are large parts of the Likud Party.''

Yeah, he said that he'll fire them if they won't backup him.

''Sharon and the Likud have betrayed the nation, not the Leftists ! ''

The Likud was tored up thanks to Sharon, the real Likud is being destroyed by Sharon everyday, he makes the Likud a Leftist party, the Likud isn't rightist anymore, they've changed their skin, the only one who've stayed against Sharon is Bibi Netanyahu.

''The leftists always said that they wanted the deportation.

They've never even thought of doing it, they just talked.

''I happen to disagree with what the left says and wants, and very strongly so - but I would defend to the last their right to free speech, and the democratic pursuit of their goals.''

But they try to stop the right from doing so, they think Israel should be one rule leftist state, so why not to use the same tool and then return Democracy?

''The only one who acts wrong in Israel these days, who acts against their alleged principles, and against the will of the people, are Sharon and the Likud Party !''

Yes, they've switched their loyality from Israel to the Muslims.

''In the elections, they defeated the left-wing parties soundly by promising a new, proud Israel, one that fights terrorists instead of appeasing them as the left proposed, and practised since the Oslo Accords in 1993, which brought about nothing but the most bloody terror attacks Israel had ever seen.''

I've read that agreement, doesn't worth a bite. They lie each time and now, thanks to Sharon both don't understand that they lie and we believe...

You got my point.

''Strange enough, but humans are fallible ... Sharon deemed his personal wealth more important than the integrity and security of the nation, the rights of the Jews in Gaza, and the will of the people.

As I said, a highly corrupted man.

''They - Sharon and his "dogs", namely the Likud Party - are now willing to endanger the nation of Israel, the nation they promised to guard and protect, by throwing Gaza to the terrorists, who will capture it as a prey of their terror war, and feel vindicated thru it, reenforced psychologically to carry on blowing up Jews in order to gain more territory from the weak Jewish regime.''

Betraytors.

''To say it explicitly, I hold no, absolutely no grudge against the Israeli left in this matter - they've always told the public what they wanted, have always been honest about their goals annd motivations ( as they see themselves, at least ).''

As someonje who's living every day life with leftists, I got to tell you, they're far from that, everyone that's rightist is automastticaly Barbarian, and can't figure anything right. They think the right should never be on rule, even if he was elected.

I agree about the rest, but in the left, I got respect only to Haavoda, the rest became Neo Leftists.
